Okiku doll

Freaky, right? This doll is said to be possessed by the restless spirit of Okiku, the young girl who once owned the doll. That is, before she died mysteriously of a cold a year after she got the doll. The girl's family placed the doll in the household shrine and prayed to it everyday. Soon the doll's hair began to grow, the family took that as a sign of their daughter's restless spirit inhabiting the doll.

Now the doll 'resides' in Mannenji temple. No one has ever been able to explain why the doll's hair continually grows, but studies have shown that the hair is indeed that of a young child.
Creepy, but just another reason to go to Japan...muahahahaha!

  2. Wow, that is freaky. Interesting, though. Being raised Catholic and knowing about mysterious things that happen with religious images (crying statues and pictures, etc.) it doesn't frighten me.
